This new law, if passed would mean that parents could face a year of jail time for simply feeding their child a vegan diet and up to 7 years if a child dies from being malnourished. But is a vegan diet dangerous for children? And what role should government play in these types of situations?
In the hot summer months all I want are recipes that are fast, easy, and don't require any cooking. That combined with all of the tomatoes and cucumbers coming out of the garden this time of year means that I'm making this recipe all the time! It's a delicious combination of tomatoes, cucumbers, and onion that's refreshing and healthy.

I love tomatoes! So much sp that I call myself the Tomato Queen and use #tomatoqueen online. :) I like to grow a lot of different types of heirloom tomatoes in my garden and the cherry varieties are all finally producing. I thought it would be fun to go through each type to show you what they look like and talk a little about what they taste like. Spoiler alert: they're all really good!

Blood sugar is important, but most of us never learn about our blood sugar and what affects it. Which foods raise blood sugar? Should we avoid all carbohydrates? What role do fat and protein play? Whether you have diabetes or not, these are all good questions to know the answer to.
Can animal protein kill you? That's what new research seems to suggest. But, when we did a little deeper, the results are a little different. So what does this mean for us and what should we eat to stay healthy? Is animal protein really bad for us and is plant protein good for us? Let's talk about it.

Eating when you're hungry and stopping when you're full sounds simple, but that doesn't mean it's always easy. In fact, for many of us, it can be hard to tell when we're physically hungry and when there's something else driving us to eat. Emotional hunger and food cravings can make us eat, sometimes without us even realizing it. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to figure out if you're really hungry or not.
Popcorn is an in between food. For a lot of people, it isn't really clear whether or not popcorn is a healthy choice. There's infographics showing the calories, salt, and fat in a movie theater popcorn bucket, but there's also talk about how popcorn is a healthy whole grain. So which is it?
It's amazing what a month can do! The garden has come a long way since my last update and it's really exciting. Lots of things are growing and it looks like I'm going to have my best harvests yet! For a point of reference, I'm in Virginia in Zone 7. All of the plants in the garden we either seeded directly or started from seed inside. I like to grow heirloom varieties, so there are a lot of tasty and interesting types that you might not have seen before!
Pokemon Go is taking the world by storm and I have gotten in on the action! Now, while there are lots of horror stories out there about robberies and people playing while driving, the game actually has some real health benefits. That's right, Pokemon Go can be GOOD for you!
Meal planning can be a big help when it comes to eating healthy, but if you're just getting started you might not know where to begin. My friend, Melissa, from Butterfly Planner has some great tips, so I asked her to come on and share some of them with us!
The summer before my junior year of high school I started a year of no desserts or sweets. Throughout the year, I learned a lot of lessons. Some of the results were great and others were terrible, but they all taught me something important.
June has been a great month for favorites! This month a lot of fun things happened, including a new hair cut, a new YouTube channel, some awesome garden developments, and more!
Whethe you're traveling for vacation or business, you want to feel good and get the most out of your trip. That can be a challenge when there aren't a lot of healthy food options around. Plus, there are some restriction on what you can bring if you're flying. While here at VidCon 2016, I thought it would be fun to show you everything I packed to make sure I ate well on the flight over and while at the event. I'm also sharing a couple mistakes I made that you can learn from!
Almost every home in America has a microwave, but a lot of people worry that they may be dangerous or damage nutrients in their food. So what exactly is a microwave and what does a microwave oven do to our food? Are they safe?
The Aspire Assist is like a reverse feeding tube. A port sits on the outside of the body that is connected to the stomach, but instead of putting food in, it is used to drain food out. About 30% of the food a person eats is drained from the stomach into the toilet through the device, and the remaining food is digested as normal. Obviously, this has a lot of people talking and many are calling it medically assisted bulimia. Here's what I think about it.
Most of what I eat changes with the seasons. I have apples in the fall, asparagus in the spring, and lots of tomatoes in the summer! However, there are few healthy foods that stay in rotation all year long. These are the staples that make their way into every season because they're versatile or make healthy eating much easier.
Eating healthy doesn't have to be complicated, so today I'm showing you what I ate on a day in late Spring. I hope that this will give you some ideas and inspiration for your own healthy meals. If you've ever wondered what a dietitian actually eats, this one is for you!
